Additional Documentation
Portions of this additional documentation, while directed to Florida
users, are generally applicable to any one-number games that use the 0
digit. Also, the paragraph about scratch-and-win and fixed-number
tickets applies to all users that buy them. Finally, players in any
lottery should read the last two paragraphs.
Florida Lotteries
WIN$BIG was written before the Florida lotteries began operation.
Hence, despite my efforts to make the programs as flexible as possible,
it was not possible to configure the program specifically for the
Florida lotteries or to insure that all programming would operate
properly for those lotteries.
Version 5 of WIN$BIG includes configuration for both the Florida Cash 3
Game (Game 1) and the Florida Lotto (Game 2). The data files also
include the results of the drawings in both games through 22 May 88.
Therefore, you will not have to configure WIN$BIG for either of those
Florida lotteries. However, you will want to update the data files by
entering all numbers drawn after 22 May 88. Cash 3 drawings occur
daily and Lotto drawings are weekly. The first Cash 3 drawing was on
29 April 88 and the first Lotto drawing was on 7 May 88.
As a result of the program's flexibility, it will handle the Florida
lotteries quite adequately, but the following explanations are in
order:
Florida Cash 3 Game -- Game 1 on each menu:
Florida's daily game is a one-number game with three
drawings of digits from 0 to 9. Hence, the possible
winning numbers range from 000 to 999. Game 1 is now
configured to handle this lottery. Version 5 also takes
into account the possibility of a winning number
beginning with 0's or having all 0's. With few excep-
tions, all parts of the program should function normally
for either possibility. The exceptions (applicable only
to one-number games that use the 0 digit) include the
following:
-- When numbers are displayed by the program, a
number beginning with 0 will be shown as a 2-
digit number and a number beginning with two 0's
will be shown as a single digit. For example,
if the program displays 56, it refers to the
number 056 and if it shows 6, it is referring to
the number 006. Also, if the program refers to
000, a single 0 will be shown. Other numbers
with 0's will be shown normally (e.g. 500, 506
or 560).
-- You will not be able to select 000 (shown as 0
on the number-selection display) or save or
enter it as a number to bet on. Nor will you be
able to enter 000 as the number drawn, if that
is ever the case. If you bet on 000 and win,
you can enter the amount won, but there will be
no other record of 000 having been bet on or
drawn.
-- In the configuration section of the program
(Item 1, Main Menu, and Item 2 of the submenu),
in the "Ways-to-Win in One-Number Games"
section, if you ever have to change the ways-to-
win for the Florida Cash 3 game (or any one-
number game that uses the 0 digit), the winning
example shown will be "12" and some of the
questions will show other examples with only 2
digits. Assume that the winning example is 012
and that any later 2-digit example shown begins
with 0.
-- The above explanations should apply equally to
all other parts of the program for the Florida
Cash 3 game (or any one-number game that uses
the 0 digit), i.e. if a 2-digit number is shown,
assume that it is preceded by a 0; if a single-
digit number is shown, assume that it is
preceded by two 0's; and, if a single 0 is
shown, assume that it is 000. (Also, these
explanations apply to other one-number games in
which the number has more or less than 3 digits
and uses the 0 digit, i.e. only leading digits
larger than 0 will be shown and, if the number
shown by the program has fewer digits than it
should, you must assume that the number begins
with an appropriate number of 0 digits.)
-- The Florida Cash 3 game permits you to win 5
different ways (Straight, 3-Way Box, 6-Way Box,
3-Way Straight/Box, and 6-Way Straight/Box), and
2 of those ways require a $1 bet. All 5 types
of wins involve what the program refers to as
either a full match (exact match of all three
digits in the same order) or a "full permuta-
tion", i.e. all digits match but not in the
exact order. Hence, when you enter the number
drawn in any daily game and the program compares
it with the number(s) you bet on, any exact
match or full-permutation match will be shown as
a winner. Whether you actually win and how much
you win will depend on which of the 5 types of
wins you have and whether you bet 50 cents or
$1. (The amount won is then entered by you in a
different part of the program.)
-- The auto-match procedure will not display
leading zeros, if any, in the number drawn or in
the numbers that you bet on (as explained
above). However, the matching procedure will
recognize the existence of any leading zeros and
will perform a proper match. In other words, if
the number drawn is 071, the program will show
it as 71, but if you bet on 701, for example,
the full-permutation winning match will be
identified by the program.
-- The Analysis chart (Main Menu Item 2, Selection
Menu Item 5) will not display 0 as a repeated
digit when that is the case. It does count any
repeats of the 0 digit within the number drawn,
however. Use the "View Numbers Drawn" utility
(Main Menu Item 5, Status Menu Item 4) to
confirm whether and how often the 0 digit
repeated with a number drawn.
Florida Lotto -- Game 2 on each menu:
The Florida Lotto is a standard 6-number Lotto, using
the numbers 1 to 49. To win something, you must match
3, 4, 5 or all 6 of the numbers drawn. How much you win
will depend on how many numbers you matched, how many
players have the same number of matches as you do, and
the total amount in the pool set aside for the winners.
Game 2 is already configured to handle this lottery.
Remember, no additional configuration is required to use WIN$BIG for
either the Florida Cash 3 daily game (Game 1) or the Florida Lotto
(Game 2). However, to use the program to its best advantage, you
should enter all winning numbers from all drawings prior to and after
your receipt of this program. (If lottery officials later change the
ways-to-win or some other aspect of the game, the game's configuration
may have to be changed or the game may have to be configured as a new
game.)
Scratch-and-Win and Fixed-Number Tickets
Scratch-and-win tickets are those that indicate whether you won when
you scratch off some hidden data on the ticket. Fixed-number tickets
already have a number on them when you buy them and whether you win is
determined by a drawing and matching the numbers drawn with the number
on your ticket(s). If you wish to have WIN$BIG keep track of your
expenses and amounts won from purchasing these lottery tickets, enter
the configuration section and select either Game 1 or Game 2. Change
the "Instant Wins" item to Yes for one of them. Then, each time you
are ready to enter data for the bets and amounts won in that game, you
can include the amount you spent on these tickets in the total amount
bet and then, when appropriate, enter any amounts won as Instant Wins.
(The program will ask for the amount of instant-wins separately if the
game is configured for instant-wins.)
Making Bets and Entering Amounts Won
Remember that, pursuant to the instructions and to insure that all data
is kept correctly, you must bet on at least one number or set of
numbers for each drawing, even if you didn't really make a bet and you
enter the amount bet as 0. Then, after entering the number(s) drawn in
any drawing, you must enter an amount won, even if it's 0. In other
words, to insure the integrity of the data on file, you must take the
logical steps for each drawing: enter a bet, enter the number(s) drawn
and, finally, enter the amount won. The program is designed to insure
that, if you fail to make a bet, even a ficticious one, you will not be
able to enter an amount won and, if you fail to enter an amount won,
you won't be able to enter the number(s) drawn in the next drawing. If
you actually make a bet for each lottery's drawing, this procedure will
not be inconvenient and will insure that the data base is accurate.
However, be advised that it is possible to change the numbers bet on
and then run the auto-match procedure for those new numbers, using the
number(s) drawn in the prior drawing. (See Match-numbers-menu item 2.)
This procedure allows you to test the program and/or to correct errors
that you might make in the numbers bet on. In normal circumstances,
the auto-match procedure will be run automatically as soon as you enter
the number(s) drawn for a new drawing and, hence, you should seldom, if
ever, have any need to run the auto-match procedure (item 2 on that
menu) separately.
Good luck!
